#12 Cavaliers Rolls to 24-8 Win at Neumann

ASTON, PA – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team inched closer to securing the number one seed and home field advantage in the upcoming Atlantic East Conference tournament with today's 24-8 win at Neumann.

At 5-0 in league play, the No. 12 Cavaliers have one regular season conference tile remaining, Saturday's home contest against Gwynedd Mercy.

Juniors Mikey Vanaman and Dillon McManus sparked the Blue and White attack, combining for 15 points. Vanaman notched a season-high nine points on four goals and five assists, while McManus marked the scoring column six times, also a season best.

Junior Austin Nolton and sophomore Tommy Vaughan added two goals each, while freshman Mason Lenart added a pair of assists.

The Blue and White controlled the faceoff spot, winning 25 of the game's 33 draws. Senior Jake Huey went a perfect 11-11, while claimed John McCormick nine of his 12 chances and freshman Tyler Carroll 5-10.

The Cavaliers scooped 47 ground balls in the win, with Huey's six leading the way, while classmate Evan Trizonis and McCormick securing four each.

Cabrini got off to a hot start, as freshman Jake Schneider scored just 39 seconds into the game. Vanaman doubled the leadless than a minute later before the club went cold.

The Knights got on the board at the 10:04 mark. The Cavaliers snapped a seven minute scoring drought with back to back markers by McManus and Vanaman. Neumann's second goal came with 4:16 to play, but Cabrini responded with seven unanswered goals to break the game open.

The Cavaliers scored five goals in the final 3:24 of the first quarter and added a pair in the opening 1:14 of the second.

Both clubs alternated goals through the second quarter, but a Trizonis goal beat the halftime buzzer, handing the visitors a 15-5 lead at the break.

Five Cabrini netminders saw time in the Blue and White cage, with graduate student Matt Nestler recording the victory at posting one save in 26 minutes.

Drew Conlon led the Knights with four goals and an assist, while Mike Kiley scored twice. The defensive trio of John Giovinazzo, Canon Coyle and Kyle Daly combined for 10 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.

The Cavaliers have little time to enjoy today's win, as No. 2 Salisbury will make an appearance at Edith Robb Dixon Field on Friday night. The opening faceoff is slated for 7pm.
