DOYLESTOWN, PA – The Cabrini field hockey team scored early and often, as the Cavaliers cruised to a season-opening 6-1 victory at Delaware Valley this afternoon.
Junior
Caroline Gallagher scored the first of her two goals just 16 seconds after the opening whistle, as the Blue and White built a commanding 3-0 lead just over six minutes into the action.
Freshman
Maggie Cella notched her first collegiate goal at the 3:34 mark, converting a pass from classmate
Grace Caspar. Junior Dale Ewing added to the lead less than three minutes later and added a second marker at the 11:22 mark to give Cabrini a 4-0 lead after the first quarter.
Sophomore
Adrianna Jones extended the lead just before the halftime break, turning a pass from junior
Sara Hussey into a 5-0 halftime lead.
Gallagher closed the Blue and White's scoring in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, while Aggies found the scoring column with five minute left in the game.
Gallagher tallied a game-high seven shots, three more than Jones, as Cabrini outshot its hosts 29-5 and recorded 14 penalty corners on the day.
All three of Cabrini's netminders saw action in the victory, with sophomore
Courtney Keith recording one save in 43 minutes of work to secure the victory.
Ashley Birmingham scored the lone goal for Delaware Valley, while goaltender Alyssa Rudd tallied a pair of saves.
The Cavaliers have little time to enjoy today's win, as they will head to Madison, NJ to play in the Drew University Fall Festival. Cabrini will face Lycoming at 7pm on Friday and FDU-Florham at 3pm on Saturday.
