Field Hockey knocks off 11th-ranked TCNJ, 2-1, in OT

RADNOR, Pa. – Cabrini University senior forward Maura Tumelty swatted an arching ball out of mid air into the back of the cage as the Cavaliers (6-0) defeated 11th-ranked The College of New Jersey, 2-1, in overtime Tuesday night in field hockey play.

Tumelty's shot, on a pass by freshman forward Maggie Cella, came 4:49 into the first overtime as Cabrini remained undefeated and knocked off TCNJ for the third time in school history (2009, 2016 and 2022).

The Cavs tied the score with 3:50 left in regulation as Daly Ewing powered one through on assists from freshman midfielder Grace Caspar and junior midfielder Caroline Gallagher.

Cabrini's defensive unit did its part, allowing the Lions just seven shots on the evening and just five corners.

After a scoreless first half, TCNJ got on the board with 3:53 left in the third quarter as Kayla Cichlar scored on a blast to the bottom left of the cage.

In the overtime, it was all Cavs as they had two penalty corners and two shots before Tumelty's game winner.

In goal, sophomore Courtney Keith made three saves. Cabrini has allowed just three goals in its first six games.

The Cavs are back at it on Thursday, as they travel to New Jersey to take on Stockton University.
