HAVERFORD, PA – The Cabrini volleyball took the host, Haverford Fords, to the limit, but fell on the short end of a thrilling five set match at Haverford in today's season-opener.
The Cavaliers got contributions from players up and down the roster in the 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 24-26, 15-12 loss.
Graduate student
Hannah Dalton led the way, pairing 15 kills and 21 digs, both match highs. Sophomore
Sam Heenan and senior
Victoria Camacho combined for 21 kills in the loss.
After missing last season due to injury, senior
Taylor Downing returned with 22 assists, while senior
Melanie Cotes-Rivera paired 12 assists and 13 digs.
Graduate student
Gina Custer shared match high honors with 21 digs, while junior
Lily Baynum notched a career best seven total blocks. Sophomore
Alison Creeden added seven digs to the defensive effort, with Camacho totaling four total blocks.
The Blue and White also matched their 2021 season high with 15 kills on the day, with Custer notching four aces, one more than Downing and sophomore
Jessie Donovan.
The Cavaliers have little time to regroup, as they will face a pair of tough opponents on Saturday. Cabrini will meet New Jersey City at 11am and Stockton at 2pm. Both matches will take place at Haverford College.
