MADISON, NJ – For the second consecutive year, the Cabrini field hockey team has kicked off the season with three consecutive wins. The Cavaliers scored a 6-0 win over FDU-Florham for the club's second consecutive shutout.
The Blue and White seized control of the game in the opening minutes, as sophomore
Adrianna Jones netted a pair of goals in the opening six minutes. The sophomore converted a centering pass from junior
Caroline Gallagher in the fifth minute, then punched in a loose ball just over 90 seconds later.
Gallagher added to the score sheet in the 17
th minute, converting a penalty stroke. Three minutes later, Jones completed her first career hat trick, turning a Gallagher pass into a 4-0 Cabrini lead at the halftime break.
Freshman
Krista Geibler notched her first collegiate goal in the 36
th minute after collecting a pass from senior
Olivia Sims. Gallagher closed the scoring in the 44
th minute, as the junior dribbled up the field before beating the Devils' goaltender.
Cabrini's offense controlled the action, outshooting FDU-Florham 20-9, with Jones and Gallagher accounting for 15 shots.
The Blue and White defensive effort was just as strong, as the Devils recorded just four hits over the game's first 45 minutes. Cabrini also fought off 11 penalty corners.
Sophomore goaltender
Courtney Keith earned the victory, recording three saves in 45 minutes of action, while classmate
Makayla Hueber and freshman
Susie Miller combined for three fourth quarter stops. Sims also added a defensive save to her stat line.
FDU-Florham's Emily Schlessinger suffered the loss, despite recording 10 saves in three quarters of work.
The Cavaliers will make their Edith Robb Dixon Field debut on Thursday, as they play host to Widener (1-1). The opening whistle is slated for 6pm.
