Radnor, PA - On Thursday night, Cabrini Field Hockey hosted the Ospreys of Stockton University. Stockton entered with a 10-3 record, good for second in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
Early in the match,
Daly Ewing sent a shot toward goal, which
Kayla Ledbetter wisely let pass. Ewing's shot then split the pads of Stockton's goaltender, but the ball was stopped by the stick of a defender before it could cross the line.
Stockton got on the board first in the 12th minute. After
Courtney Keith denied a shot from the left side, an Osprey forward tapped the rebound past her to put them ahead 1-0.
Cabrini didn't trail for long, as the Cavs scored off a penalty corner just before the end of the first period. Adrainna Jones took the corner,
Sara Hussey settled the entry, and
Daly Ewing gathered possession head on. Ewing then beat two defenders to create a shot that evaded traffic and found the left side of the cage.
Stockton reclaimed the lead with a breakaway goal in the second quarter. On the play, the Ospreys connected on a pass from midfield before placing their shot far post.
In the third frame, the Cavaliers leveled the score 2-2. As
Sara Hussey won a battle for possession, she sent a cross from the right corner to
Molly McGee in front. McGee then hit a one-timer far post to drive in the game's second equalizer.
Stockton broke the tie with four minutes left in the match. They'd use a blast from the left side of the circle to convert a penalty corner attempt and go ahead 3-2.
Cabrini had some meaningful attempts in the game's closing minutes.
Caroline Gallagher and
Daly Ewing both sent crosses across the face of the cage, yet each went untouched. McGee, Gallagher, and Ewing all found shots in the final minute, but were unable to send the match to overtime.
Cabrini will return to Atlantic East Conference action on Wednesday 10/18, when the Cavaliers take on St. Mary's College of Maryland.
