Radnor, PA - On Saturday, Cabrini Field Hockey collected six goals in their conference victory over the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy University.
The midday contest served as Field Hockey's Pink Day and Senior Day. This year, the Cavaliers congratulated
Sara Hussey,
Caroline Gallagher,
Daly Ewing,
Julia Malle, and
Makayla Hueber.
Two minutes into the match,
Caroline Gallagher put Cabrini on the board. Off a left side penalty corner,
Adrianna Jones played to Gallagher, who evaded two defenders before placing a shot into the far side of the cage.
Following a quieter stretch from the Cavs, Cabrini made the most of a 27th minute penalty corner set. After playing in,
Caroline Gallagher and
Daly Ewing placed shots on goal. While both shots were saved by the Griffins' goalkeeper,
Molly McGee collected the rebound off Ewing's try, then scored from the right side of the goal frame.
With a minute and change left in the first half,
Caroline Gallagher dribbled a foul reset to the right side of the shooters' circle, finding space to wind up for a shot. Gallagher's strike cleared the traffic in front and found the back of the cage.
In the second half, Cabrini maintained their offensive rhythm that earned them a 3-0 lead at the break.
Three minutes into the third quarter, a long hit ahead pass from Cabrini gave the Cavaliers their fourth goal of the game.
Caroline Gallagher made the pass, finding the stick of
Molly McGee. McGee then tucked a shot beneath the of hip the opposing goalkeeper's sliding save attempt.
Cabrini used a left side penalty corner to net goal number five. As
Adrianna Jones played in to
Caroline Gallagher, Gallagher beat a defender left to create a window. Her knee high shot then made its way into the right side of the cage, good for Gallagher's third goal of the match.
The Cavaliers netted their sixth by stringing together passes in succession.
Caroline Gallagher sent an entry pass toward goal, which
Adrianna Jones redirected to
Molly McGee. McGee then drove it home from the left side, joining Gallagher with three goals in the contest.
Cabrini goaltenders
Courtney Keith and
Makayla Hueber nearly combined to preserve the clean sheet, but a 56th minute penalty stroke put Gwynedd Mercy on the board. The Griffins' penalty stroke try was well placed high and right. Still, Hueber got a part of the ball, yet it rolled over her glove-hand pad for GMU's lone goal.
Field Hockey is now 2-3 in Atlantic East Conference play with one game remaining. A win next week ensures the four seed and a home game in the AEC Tournament Quarterfinal.
The Cavaliers will wrap up their regular season at home on Wednesday against Manhattanville at 4 pm.
