Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Five Second Half Goals Power Field Hockey past Neumann

Aston, PA - On Wednesday night, Cabrini Field Hockey defeated the Knights of Neumann University behind a second half scoring outburst.

The Cavaliers controlled possession and had 12 first half shots, but none found the back of the cage. Cabrini and Neumann entered halftime knotted 0-0.

Immediately after the break, the Cavs lifted their goalless spell. Right off the tap, Caroline Gallagher carried up the left side, then made a great pass in front to Molly McGee. McGee lifted the pass above the Knights' goaltender and inside the right post for the game's first goal.

Just two minutes later, McGee struck again. On the play, Kacie Agnew fed a pass inside to Molly McGee. The Knight's goalie stopped McGee's initial shot with her foot, but couldn't locate the ball after the save. This allowed McGee to follow her attempt and score on the rebound.

The Cavaliers took their 2-0 lead into the fourth quarter.

Early in the final period, Neumann's offense put together consecutive pressures, ultimately scoring off a penalty corner.

Midway through the fourth, Sammie Voelker played a pass through a few defenders to Caroline Gallagher. Gallagher then carried across to the opposite side, where she placed a shot far post and in. The goal put Cabrini ahead 3-1.

With five minutes remaining, the Cavaliers added to their two goal advantage. Cabrini had some trouble settling a penalty corner entry, but Caroline Gallagher collected the ball near the dotted line. She reversed the field again, creating a shot from the left side. Adrianna Jones promptly deflected Gallagher's try past the pads of the Knights' goaltender.

In the closing minutes, Caroline Gallagher sped through the teeth of Neumann's defense to net Cabrini's final goal of the match. Gallagher finished with six points, coming by way of two goals and two assists.

The Cavaliers claimed the 5-1 victory and collected their first Conference win.

Field Hockey will play their second Atlantic East opponent on the road this weekend. Cabrini squares off against Immaculata University at 11am on Saturday 10/7.
