RADNOR, Pa. – In its 2023 home opener, the Cabrini University men's lacrosse team dropped an 11-7 decision to ninth-ranked University of Lynchburg (3-0) at Edith Robb Dixon Field on a snowy Saturday afternoon.
Zack Kaut and Dillon McManus had two goals each for the Cavs – ranked 12th in the latest USILA poll. Jake Goss, Mason Lenart and Brady Rauner each scored for Cabrini, while Bear Evans, Austin Bolton, Connor Herraiz and Mike Vanaman each had assists.
Lynchburg was led by five goals from Dylan Wolfe, who also had two assists. Jake Rust scored three times for the Hornets.
Individually, Sam DiTrolio had four ground balls, as he went 14-for-21 on faceoffs on the afternoon. Bolton and Jake Schneider had three ground balls each. Defensively, Evans, Kaut and Schneider each had two caused turnovers.
In goal, Chris Porzelt had four saves in 27 minutes, Connor Watts made seven saves in the final 32 minutes of the game. Tyler Hadley made 20 saves for the Hornets.
Lynchburg scored the first eight goals of the game, with Riley Hastings' goal with 2:34 remaining in the first half giving the Hornets an 8-0 lead at intermission.
Cabrini got on the board 1:41 into the second half, as Kaut scored unassisted, making the score 8-1. After Dylan Wolfe scored for the Hornets, Cabrini scored the next two goals to get within six at 9-3. Lenart scored on an assist from Herraiz at the 11:31 mark, with Goss scoring less than a minute later on an assist from Vanaman.
Cabrini would score four of the last five goals of the game, all of which coming in the fourth quarter. Rauner scored the first goal of the fourth stanza on an assist from Evans. McManus would score his goals back-to-back at 6:26 and 2:36, while Kaut scored his second goal – and last of the game – at 2:26 for the 11-7 final margin.
Cabrini has the week off and will take on Dickinson next Saturday at home.
