RADNOR, Pa. – The No. 18-ranked Cabrini University men's lacrosse team topped Endicott College 11-5 Saturday afternoon on Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Endicott opened the scoring on the afternoon as the Gulls Nate Cuttitta netted the first goal of the contest at the 12:50 mark. The Cavaliers responded nearly 30 seconds later as freshman
Matt Vanaman found space between the uprights for an unassisted goal to knot the contest at one apiece.
Connor Herraiz and
Jake Schneider followed Vanaman's goal with two of their own to give Cabrini a 4-1 edge. The Gulls cut the Cavaliers lead in half with a goal at the 4:31 mark and at the end of the first, Cabrini held a 4-2 lead. In the second, Tommy Vaughn and
Dillon McManus took advantage of a man-up situation as the duo each added a goal to their ledger to put the Cavs up 6-2 with 10:14 left in the half. Vanaman netted his second of the game and after
Mason Lenart's first at the1:14 mark, the Cavaliers took an 8-2 lead into intermission.
In the third, the two squads combined for only two goals in the quarter as defense reigned supreme.
Matthew Dorrian opened the quarter with his second goal of the year and the Gulls Guerin Favreau netted Endicott's third at the 5:19 mark. Then in the fourth, the Gulls attempted to make it interesting as Domenic Valera and Thomas Barker scored back-to-back goals to cut the Cabrini lead to 9-5 with 7:38 remaining in regulation. Despite the Gulls comeback efforts, Vanaman put the game on ice for the Cavs as the freshman netted two straight, almost a minute apart, and solidified Cabrini's 11-5 win.
Vanaman finished with four goals on the day while McManus tallied three assists as the pair led the Cavs offense.In goal, freshman
Connor Watts had nine saves to just four goals allowed.
Cabrini returns to action on Tuesday, March 14 as the Cavaliers host Ohio Wesleyan University in a non-conference matchup. First faceoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
