RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University men's lacrosse team picked up its third win in a row Tuesday afternoon as the Cavaliers outlasted the Ohio Wesleyan Bishops in a scrappy 12-8 win at home.
For the second consecutive game, the Cavaliers opposition drew the first blow as Ohio Wesleyan's Garrett Smith found the back of the net at the 9:31 mark. Two and half minutes later,
Jake Schneider scored his first of three on the day to knot the game at one apiece. Schneider broke the tie with 3:33 left in the first with his second goal, followed by a goal from
Brady Rauner to put the Cavs up 3-1. In the second, it proved to be a back-and-forth contest as the two squads traded goals early in the quarter before Schneider's third goal gave the Cavs a 6-3 lead with 6:43 left until the break. With two minutes remaining, OWU cut into Cabrini's lead once again with a late-quarter goal, but the Cavs held a 6-4 lead headed into the intermission.
Out of the break, the Bishops scored back-to-back goals and knotted the contest at 6-6 with 7:49 left in the third. Cabrini quickly retaliated as
Dillon McManus found the back of the net and sparked three unanswered goals from the Cavs to take a 9-6 lead with 1:56 on the clock. The Bishops Xander Craven made it a two-score game, but a
Matthew Dorrian goal put the Cavs back up by three to end the third. In the fourth, the two squads traded blows, but it was Dorrian again that put the game on ice for the Cavaliers as the sophomore netted his second in as many quarters and 12th on the board for Cabrini, putting the contest out of reach for the Bishops.
Schneider finished the day with his second hat trick of the year as all three goals came in the first half. Dorrian,
Connor Herraiz, and
Dillon McManus each tallied two goals on the day with Herraiz adding three assists for five points.
Between the pipes,
Connor Watts earned his third win of the year with six saves in 14 opportunities.
The Cavaliers return to action on Friday, March 17 for a St. Patrick's Day tilt as Cabrini hosts DeSales University in a non-conference matchup. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
