RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University men's lacrosse team scored nine straight goals in the second half Friday night as the Cavaliers topped DeSales University 15-6 at home in a non-conference St. Patrick's Day tilt.
The Cavaliers (5-2) got on the board first as
Jake Schneider found the back of the net at the 11:01 mark in the first. The Bulldogs knotted the game at one apiece by the 8:28 stamp but back-to-back goals from freshman
Matt Vanaman made it a 3-1 Cabrini lead headed into the second. DeSales Colin Adams cut it to a 3-2 Cabrini lead with a goal at the beginning of the quarter, but a goal from
Connor Herraiz and a third from Vanaman gave the Cavs necessary insurance as the Bulldogs netted one more before intermission to make it a 5-3 contest at the break.
In the third, Herraiz scored his second of the game to put the Cavs up 6-3, but two consecutive goals from DeSales made it a 6-5 contest with 9:49 left in the quarter. At the 6:47 mark, Schneider netted his second in the game and the first of nine consecutive from the Cavaliers as Cabrini put up four goals in the remainder of the third and then five more in the fourth as the Bulldogs had no answer. DeSales found the back of the net once more with 2:10 left in regulation, but the game was well in hand and the Cavs came away with a 15-6 win.
Vanaman tallied four goals on the night with 12 shots, nine on frame. Schneider and
Griffin Ganster finished with two goals each while Herraiz notched two goals and two assists.
John McCormick and
Sam DiTrolio went a combined 16-for-24 at the X as McCormick went 8-for-11 and DiTrolio went 8-for-12. In goal, freshman
Connor Watts had 13 saves in 19 chances.
Friday's win was the Cavaliers fourth in a row and the fifth time this season the Cabrini defense held their opponent to under 10 goals.
The Cavaliers return to action on Tuesday, March 21 as Cabrini hosts No. 4-ranked Tufts University under the lights. First face off is set for 7 p.m.
