Cavaliers end two-game skid with 16-7 win over H-SC

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University men's lacrosse team ended its two-game skid Tuesday afternoon as the Cavaliers topped Hampden-Sydney College 16-7 at home.

The Cavaliers (2-2) opened the contest with a goal in the first 18 seconds of action as junior faceoff John McCormick won the first possession at the X, lacing a shot between the pipes to put the Cavs up 1-0. Hampden-Sydney responded with a goal at the 7:35 mark, but Cabrini rattled off four-straight to end the quarter, with two coming from Matt Vanaman, as Cabrini took a 5-1 lead. In the second, the Tigers (2-2) netted back-to-back goals at the 8:21 and 6:41 marks, but the Cavs offense went into high gear once again, scoring thrice over a minute from 3:47 to the 2:42 mark as Brady Rauner, Dillon McManus, and Josh Devine all found the back of the net. Despite a late-quarter H-SC goal, the Cavs held a 10-4 lead headed to the break.

H-SC opened the third with a pair of goals to cut the Cabrini lead to just five. Soon after, the Cavs responded with multiple scores as Griffin Ganster netted his first goal of the game while Connor Herraiz and Austin Bolton each recorded a hattrick with Bolton's coming at the end of the third for Cabrini to put the Cavs up 14-7. Then in the fourth, the Tigers Michael Leone netted H-SC's seventh goal, thus prompting another Cabrini response as Herraiz capped off a golden hattrick with his fourth goal before assisting McManus on his second goal to cap off the 16-7 win.

At the X, McCormick went 20-for-25 and picked up 17 ground balls on the day. Herraiz finished with four goals and added two assists for six points on the afternoon. In goal, freshman Connor Watts earned the win with 12 saves.

The Cavaliers return to action on Saturday, March 11 as Cabrini hosts Endicott College. Faceoff is set for 3 p.m.
