ARLINGTON, Va. – Despite a lengthy weather delay, the Cabrini University men's lacrosse team defeated Marymount University 19-6 Saturday afternoon on the road to remain unbeaten in Atlantic East Conference action.
Marymount opened scoring on the afternoon as the Saints Jack Williams found the back of the Cabrini net at the 11:14 mark. The Cavs responded with a goal from freshman
Connor Herraiz, sparking five straight goals to take a 5-1 lead after the first period. In the second, the Saints cut it to a 6-3 Cavs lead with consecutive goals, but two goals from Herraiz and
Mason Lenart led to a 9-3 Cabrini lead at the break.
In the third, Cabrini and MU traded goals, but at the 10:15 mark, lighting rolled in and delayed the contest. After the inclement weather passed, Herraiz netted his fifth goal of the game just before the final horn of the period to give Cabrini an 11-4 edge headed to the fourth. In the final quarter, the Cavs outscored the Saints 8-2 highlighted by two goals from
Nate Mazurek to help Cabrini cruise to a 19-6 win.
Herraiz finished the game with a new career-high five goals scored and extended his assists streak to all 15 games in a row. Four other Cavaliers scored had a multi-goal day as Lenart, Mazurek,
Dillon McManus, and
Griffin Ganster all scored twice.
Chris Porzelt got his first start in goal since Feb. 25 against Lynchburg and allowed just six goals with 11 saves.
The Cavaliers return to action on Wednesday, April 26 as Cabrini hosts Gwynedd Mercy in the final regular season game of the year. First faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
