RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University men's lacrosse team completed its regular season with a 27-9 routing of Gwynedd Mercy University Wednesday afternoon at home.
The Cavaliers opened the contest with four straight goals and by the 8:28 mark Cabrini held a 4-0 lead. The Griffins found the back of the net at the 6:25 mark, but Cabrini's
Griffin Ganster netted his first goal of the game sparking six straight goals from the Cavs to end the first period. In the second, the Cavs and Griffins traded goals to start the quarter, but Cabrini went on a 9-1 run highlighted by three goals from
Dillon McManus to take a 20-3 lead into the break.
Out of the break, Gwynedd led off the third period with its fourth goal as Justin Carney found the back of the Cabrini net on a man-up opportunity. Cabrini's
Bryan Rafferty and
Nick Mormando each responded with a goal to give the Cavs a 22-4 lead with 11:09 left in the third. Cabrini's 20-goal first half gave the Cavs a hefty lead and despite six second half goals from the Griffins, Cabrini locked down its 12th win of the year and the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic East Conference Championship tournament.
In the win, McManus notched his 100th-career goal for the Blue and White as he tallied four on the day. Freshman
Connor Herraiz netted five goals and extended his assists streak to 16 games in a row to start his career.
With the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, the Cavaliers received a bye into the semifinal round beginning on Wednesday, May 3.
