Madison, NJ - Cabrini returned to Drew University on Saturday morning to face the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan University.
The Cavaliers dominated possession from the jump, with four penalty corners in the first five and a half minutes of play. With 4:31 on the clock in the second quarter, the Cavs notched their first goal, a backhanded shot off the stick of Caroline Gallagher. The game's opening goal held more importance than usual, as it marked a career milestone. With the goal, Gallagher eclipsed 100 career points in a Cabrini uniform.
Midway through the third quarter, Caroline Gallagher scored again, marking her fourth goal of the season. The make came after she flipped a shot from the left side into the upper-right corner of the cage. With two goals on the day, Gallagher became one of Cabrini's top 5 all-time goal-scorers.
With 10 minutes remaining in the game's final quarter, yet another milestone was recorded, as midfielder Morgan McClintock scored her first career goal. Following a save made by the Marlins' goalkeeper, McClintock's diving shot off the rebound found the left side of the cage.
After the exciting win, coach Jackie Neary added "I think it's amazing and rewarding to see what this small team did. The milestones were just the icing on the cake… It's incredible, I couldn't think of a better start."
The now 2-0 Cavaliers look to carry their early season momentum into next week. Cabrini will travel to face Widener on Thursday, 9/7 and host Delaware Valley in their home opener on Saturday, 9/9.
