Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Four Cavaliers Score in Win over Widener

Chester, PA - Cabrini Field Hockey earns their third win of the season, this time defeating the Pride of Widener University 4-0.

Through eleven minutes of play, the match was fairly quiet, with both sides recording just one total shot. Action quickly picked up, as the Cavs put themselves on the board in the 14th minute.

The scoring play started as Molly McGee swiped the ball from a Widener defender, then dumped it to a trailing Morgan McClintock. McClintock would lead an entry pass to Adrianna Jones, who sent a pass to an oncoming Caroline Gallagher. Gallagher then used two touches to find the back of the cage.

Cabrini continued to connect passes in the second period. In the 20th minute of play, a Daly Ewing corner met Caroline Gallagher. Gallagher held, turned, then while facing away from the goal, sent a pass toward Adrianna Jones. Jones' touch moved the ball toward the left side of the goal, where Ewing and the Cavaliers would watch their second goal enter.

Five minutes later, the Cavaliers scored their third. On the play, Caroline Gallagher drew several Pride defenders, including their keeper, away from the face of the cage. Gallagher's cross met freshman midfielder Leany Santana, who lowered her stick to the ground to ensure her first career goal.

With one minute remaining in the half, Cabrini went to their playbook for their fourth goal. As Sara Hussey settled a left side penalty corner, Morgan McClintock approached and sent a lateral pass to Caroline Gallagher, whose pass inside allowed Molly McGee a shot in traffic. McGee used one swipe to place the ball in the center of the cage, netting her first career goal and giving the Cavs a 4-0 lead.

Widener was inches from adding a score of their own before halftime, but a midfielder's strike hit the post and the shot off its rebound missed wide.

Cabrini kept their foot on the gas in the third quarter, but were unable to extend the lead. 8 Cavalier shots in the period led to 7 Widener saves. Neither side would score in the second half, awarding the Cavs a 4-0 victory.

Coach Jackie Neary is inspired by the energy of her 2023 group, commenting that "There is something special happening with this team. We're seeing a ton of heart and fight!"

Cabrini will continue the fight in their home opener this Saturday 9/9 when they host Delaware Valley University at 2pm.
