Swarthmore, PA - On Wednesday evening, Cabrini Field Hockey dropped their matchup against the Garnets of Swarthmore College.
The Cavaliers staved off much of the Garnets' pressure, but surrendered a single goal in each quarter.
The first came with three minutes remaining in the opening period. A Swarthmore midfielder carried the ball through Cabrini's defensive half and created an open look for her teammate, whose one-timer rolled past a sliding
Courtney Keith and into the right side board of Cabrini's cage.
Swarthmore added their second goal two minutes shy of halftime. They played a quick give-and-go pass from the far corner, which gave the initiator enough space to score from the left side.
In the third period, Swarthmore strung together several passes inside the broken line, ultimately finding a midfielder at the far post with the face of the cage open. Her goal would put the Garnets up 3-0 on the Cavaliers.
Cabrini showed some fight in the 4th quarter, when the Cavs placed two shots on goal in short succession. The closest came from
Sara Hussey, who placed a shot on frame following a Cabrini corner, but it was saved by the right pad of Swarthmore's goaltender.
Cabrini was able to get on the board with five and a half minutes left in the contest. As the Cavaliers played a penalty corner,
Morgan McClintock crossed to
Caroline Gallagher. Gallagher stepped into the striker's circle and split the pads of the Garnet goalie with a shot from the right side.
The Cavaliers late fight was not enough, as they dropped the match by a final score of 4-1.
Cabrini will face another challenging opponent on Saturday 9/23, when they will host #8 ranked Rowan University.
