Radnor, PA - On Wednesday Night, Cabrini Field Hockey hosted the Golden Wolves of Alvernia University.
Cabrini came out strong, taking the match's first five shots. The closest to finding the back of the cage came from
Caroline Gallagher. She placed a penalty corner strike far post, but it was batted away by the stick of Alvernia's goaltender.
On the defensive side,
Courtney Keith was pivotal in keeping the Golden Wolves scoreless in the second quarter. Midway through the period, she made a foot save from the ground to stop a head on take. Two minutes later, Keith made a shoulder save to absorb a shot from the left side.
Cabrini and Alvernia both entered halftime scoreless, but the Cavaliers scored shortly after the break. In the 34th minute,
Caroline Gallagher carried up the right hand side, then centered the ball.
Molly McGee received the cross and chipped it into Alvernia's net, scoring the match's first goal.
Alvernia nearly evened the score late in the third quarter, when the Golden Wolves centered a pass but failed to register a shot on the play.
Immediately after an Alvernia yellow card, the Cavaliers made use of their one player advantage.
Daly Ewing played a left side corner to
Caroline Gallagher, who passed to
Morgan McClintock. McClintock buried a shot near post, giving the Cavaliers a 2-0 lead.
With three minutes left in the contest, Alvernia earned a penalty stroke, but the attempt struck the left post.
The 2-0 victory marked the Cavaliers' fourth clean sheet of the season.
Cabrini's
Jackie Neary was thrilled with many player performances on the night. "It was exciting to see first-year-starter
Molly McGee net such an important goal for us. I also think
Daly Ewing played one of her best games this season. We needed this one, I'm proud of the way everyone played tonight."
The Cavaliers will journey to Massachusetts this weekend, as they are set to face a talented Endicott College team on Saturday morning.
