Megan Johnston had always planned on playing softball in college but even after her senior year of high school, she wasn’t exactly sure where she wanted to go. However, when former Cabrini coach Bridget Baxter Orchard began recruiting her heavily, Johnston knew she wanted to be a part of the Cavalier program.

“I decided to play for Cabrini having never met any of the girls on the team,” Johnston commented. “I talked with the coach and really liked her so that was enough for me.”

It was a big decision with little basis but it proved to be a good one. The four-time All-PAC honoree was a member of five consecutive conference championship squads, three as a player and two as an assistant coach, and was an All-Regional Team pick three times.

As a junior, Johnston was named to the All-American First Team after leading the Cavaliers to a 42-5 mark and finishing third in the country with an ERA of 0.40. One year earlier, she helped Cabrini to its first-ever NCAA Regional Tournament appearance as the Cavaliers captured the program’s first conference championship and received an automatic berth in the national championship.

In 2002, Johnston pitched a school-record 50 consecutive scoreless innings, which ranks sixth on the All-Time NCAA Division III list. The same year, she led the nation after recording 100 at-bats without striking out.

“As pitcher, all of these honors and records would not have been possible without the help of my teammates. I was a good player because of them and their skills.”
