SCRANTON, Pa. – The Cabrini women's soccer team suffered a narrow 3-2 loss against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Marywood University Saturday. Junior Sabina DeGisi scored her team-best seventh goal of the season in the loss.
Freshman Kara Hinkelmon scored her fifth goal of the season in the 25th minute, handing the Cavaliers a 1-0 advantage. Hinkelmon converted a free kick from 18-yards out for the game's first score.
Cabrini carried the 1-0 lead into the intermission behind three saves from sophomore goalkeeper Gianna Porretta.
After 32 minutes of scoreless play in the second half, Marywood knotted the contest at 1-1 following an unassisted goal off a Tayler Simmons' free kick at the 67:43 mark.
The Cavaliers responded less than one minute later with DeGisi's tally at the 68:36 mark. The scoring chance was set-up by junior Jenna Laufenberg. DeGisi's break-away goal supplied the visitors with a 2-1 edge.
Marywood answered, tying the game at two goals apiece in the 72nd minute. Kaitlyn Hresko, off a feed from Shannon Hresko, headed a free kick past Porretta for the game's equalizer.
Lisa Hanselman deposited the game-winning goal at the 84:48 mark off a pass from Erica Mechalke. Marywood remains unbeaten against CSAC opponents, improving to 8-0 this season.
Porretta finished with four saves in net for Cabrini.
The Cavaliers out-shot Marywood, 11-10. The Pacers held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Cabrini (6-8-0, 3-3-0) resumes CSAC competition Tuesday, October 21 at home against The College of Notre Dame. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
