IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Cabrini volleyball team used a balanced defense and efficient offensive attack in a 3-1 win its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) finale against Immaculata University Thursday. Five Cavaliers recorded at least 10 digs and seven kills.
Senior Michelle Mola guided the Cabrini backline, registering a team-high 23 digs. Senior Lindsay Martin and freshman Courtney Abel each added 14 digs.
Senior Danielle Finnegan tallied 13 digs and junior setter Lizzie Williams notched 10. Williams also totaled 42 assists, posting her fifth double-double of the season.
One night after logging a season-best 94 digs as a team, Cabrini collected 91 digs against the Mighty Macs.
Offensively, freshman Alexis Doss powered the Cavaliers' attack, burying 14 kills on 27 attempts. Sophomore Stephanie Recklau paired 12 kills, on 24 tries, with a team-high three total blocks.
Senior Kaitlyn Fetterman contributed nine kills, while junior Traci Beltz and Williams each added seven.
Cabrini cruised to a one-set advantage following a 25-7 victory in the opening game. The Cavaliers clamped Immaculata into a two-set deficit following a 25-19 triumph in set two.
The Mighty Macs responded, prolonging the contest with a 25-19 win in the third set. The Cavaliers put away any thoughts of a decisive fifth set with a 25-17 victory in the fourth game.
Cabrini (17-11, 8-2), currently sitting in third place in the CSAC standings, entertains a brief non-conference tournament over the weekend before the postseason. The Cavaliers meet Rutgers University – Newark Saturday at noon at Saint Mary's College (Md.). Cabrini will play host SMC at 2 p.m.
