CARLISLE, Pa. - The Cabrini women's basketball team opened its 2008-09 season Saturday at the Dickinson College Tournament against Landmark Conference foe the University of Scranton. The Royals earned a 68-57 victory, shooting 42.3 percent from the field as a team.
Junior point guard Deana DiAmico led the Cavaliers, scoring a game-high 19 points. DiAmico shot 6-for-8 from the field overall, including a blistering 6-for-6 performance from the three-point line.
Senior forward Kayleen Smith added nine points and 11 rebounds for Cabrini. The Cavaliers shot 39.1 percent from the field for the game. Junior guard Kate Walck added nine points on 3-for-9 shooting.
Senior forward Brittany McLeod led the Cabrini offense with a club-leading six assists. Junior guard Alyssa Brady collected six points and four rebounds.
The Royals were paced by senior forward Kelly Tratthen and junior guard Ryan Mooney. Tratthen tallied a team-best 14 points, while Mooney added 13 points. Scranton turned a two-point advantage, 29-27, into an 11-point victory.
Cabrini (0-1) meets Washington and Lee University Sunday at 2 p.m. for day two of the Dickinson College Tournament.
