Women's Basketball Rolls to 76-63 CSAC Win Against Baptist Bible College

The Cabrini women's basketball team remains unbeaten in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) competition after a 76-63 win against Baptist Bible College Saturday at Nerney Field House. Junior point guard Deana DiAmico paced the Cavaliers with a team-high 12 points.

DiAmico, the country's top three-point shooter, shooting 59.5 percent from beyond the arc entering today's game, shot 4-for-9 from the field overall and 2-for-3 from long range. She also added two rebounds and two assists.

Junior shooting guard Alyssa Brady tallied 11 points, shooting 4-for-7 from the field, including two three-point baskets. She grabbed three rebounds and dished two assists.

Senior reserve guard Kate Ryan collected nine points, while senior forward Kayleen Smith and junior shooting guard Kate Walck each added eight points. The Cabrini offense boasted 13 players with at least one field goal and two points.

Walck and senior forward Brittany McLeod led the Blue & Gray charge on the glass, each claiming a team-high six rebounds. McLeod recorded seven points.

The Cavaliers jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the opening two minutes. The spurt was capped by a three-ball from DiAmico. However, the Defenders responded and trimmed their deficit to just three points, 17-14, at the 9:33 mark.

Cabrini led 33-25 at the intermission and led by as much as 13 points, 33-20, with four minutes remaining.

The Blue & Gray sprinted out of the gates in the second half, pushing its lead to 18 points, 52-34, at the 13:03 mark. Brady's three-point field goal at the 7:50 mark handed the hosts their largest lead of the contest, 64-43.

The Cavaliers owned a commanding 24-11 advantage in bench points and outscored the Defenders in the paint, 14-10.

Forward Naomi Sweeney led the Baptist Bible charge, scoring a game-high 17 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Guard Marlie Kneifel registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Defenders claimed a 14-3 edge in second-chance points.

Cabrini (7-2, 2-0) will enjoy one day of rest before continuing its CSAC schedule Monday, January 12 at the College of Notre Dame. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
