RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team improved its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) record to a perfect 9-0 and won its fifth straight game Thursday with an 82-43 win against Rosemont College at Nerney Field House. Junior guards Alyssa Brady and Deana DiAmico powered the Cavaliers' offense, each totaling a game-high 14 points.
Brady shot 5-for-9 overall, including two three-point field goals. She also pulled down four rebounds and dished two assists. DiAmico converted five field goals and handed a game-high four assists.
Sophomore guard Julie Bonomo finished the game with 12 points in just six minutes played. She connected on 3-of-4 field goal tries, draining 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Bonomo also shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line.
Senior forward Kayleen Smith added eight points and claimed nine rebounds. Senior forward Kate Fetterman contributed six points and five caroms. The Cavaliers won the battle on the boards, posting 44 rebounds to 33 from Rosemont.
While Cabrini tallied its second 20-point victory in as many games and fourth this season overall, the Blue & Gray had to rebound from a dismal shooting performance in the first half. The Cavaliers shot just 32.4 percent from the floor overall, shooting 1-for-12 from long range, in the first half en route to a 27-27 tie with the Ramblers.
However, Cabrini answered the bell in the second half, shooting 59.4 percent from the floor and draining 6-of-10 three-point attempts. The Cavaliers shot 11-for-11 from the charity stripe in the second period.
The Blue & Gray utilized a 24-0 run in the opening minutes of the second half, securing a 56-32 cushion with 9:24 on the clock. The Cavaliers' defense held Rosemont scoreless for nearly nine minutes.
As Cabrini ballooned its lead to more than 35 points, the Ramblers struggled to get in an offensive rhythm. Rosemont shot 20.0 percent from the field in the second half and 28.3 percent for the game. Forward Vanessa Johnson led the Ramblers with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Guard Karen Boyle added 11 points and guard Christa Bednarek tallied nine.
The Cavaliers outscored the Ramblers 37-10 in the paint, 19-2 on the fast break and 38-11 off the bench.
Cabrini (14-3, 9-0) returns to action Saturday, January 31 against CSAC foe Cedar Crest College in game one of a men and women's double-header. The men's game will tip at approximately.
Saturday also marks Alumni Day for both the men and women's Cavalier programs. The women's alumni game is set for a 9 a.m. start, while the men will begin at 10:30 a.m.
