Volleyball Extends Streak to Nine, Sweeps Baptist Bible College, 3-0

Third-year head coach Eric Schaefer has guided Cabrini to 20 overall wins for the second time in the last two seasons.

The Cabrini volleyball team was at it again Wednesday night, winning its ninth match against a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent in nine tries. The Cavaliers remain undefeated in conference play following a 3-0 victory versus Baptist Bible College.

Third-year head coach Eric Schaefer has guided the Blue & White to 20 overall wins for the second time in the last two seasons. The Cavaliers finished the 2008 season with a program-record 22 overall victories.

In addition, Cabrini has recorded three-set wins in nine of its last 10 matches, including its last six consecutive outings.

Junior middle Stephanie Recklau fueled the Cavaliers' attack versus the Defenders, tallying 13 kills on 28 attempts with zero errors. Recklau entered the contest listed fifth nationally in attack percentage (.426).

Senior outside hitter Traci Beltz also reached double figures in kills with 11. Senior setter Lizzie Williams notched 28 assists and eight digs.

Sophomore opposite Alexis Doss totaled a club-best 17 digs. Sophomore libero Courtney Abel and senior opposite Kate Conahan each posted 14 digs.

Katelin Broughton guided the Baptist Bible offense with 26 assists. Marlie Kniefel added a team-high nine kills.

The Cavaliers jumped out to a one-game advantage with a 25-21 win in the first set. Cabrini earned a two-game lead with a 25-19 victory in the second frame and clinched the match with a 25-16 triumph in the third set.

With two games remaining on its regular seaosn schedule, the Blue & White owns sole possession of first place in the CSAC standings. Two-time defending CSAC champion Neumann University has just one loss in conference play, suffered at the hands of the Cavaliers September 29, and stands in second place.

Cabrini (20-6, 9-0) returns to Nerney Field House for a meeting with Immaculata University Saturday, October 24 at 11 a.m.
