RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's soccer team used six second half goals enroute to its ninth consecutive victory, blanking Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Cedar Crest College, 7-0, Saturday afternoon at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The shutout extends the Cavaliers' consecutive minutes scoreless streak to 812, the longest active Division III streak in the nation.
Senior forward Sabina DeGisi ignited the Cabrini offense, scoring two goals, including the 60th of her career, and recording a team-best seven shots. DeGisi has scored at least one goal in eight of the last 10 games, including four games with at least two scores.
Senior midfielder Dana Nardello handed the Blue & White a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute, scoring her second goal of the season. Despite out-shooting the Falcons 12-1 in the opening half, the Cavaliers clung to that one-goal at the intermission.
The Cabrini offense erupted in the second half, notching 22 total shots and depositing six goals. DeGisi jump-started the run with two scores separated by less than five minutes. Junior back Brianna Conner earned the assist on the first goal and sophomore midfielder Sammy Thompson was credited the helper on the second.
Senior forward Heather Thompson buried her second goal of the season off a scrum in front of the Cedar Crest net in the 59th minute, providing the hosts with a 4-0 lead. Conner's second goal of the season, a shot from nearly 35-yard out pushed the Cavaliers' cushion to 5-0.
Junior forward Annmarie Kolla ballooned the Cabrini advantage to six goals, 6-0, at the 62:22 mark with her sixth score of 2009. Sophomore midfielder Kara Hinkelmon closed out the scoring in the final minute of playing, finding the back of the from 30-yards out for her fourth goal of the season.
Junior goalkeeper Gianna Porretta tallied just one save for her fourth shutout of the season and the 11th of her Cavaliers' career. Cedar Crest goalkeeper Heidi Paul notched 14 saves in the loss.
The Blue & White's 812 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal dates back to September 26 at home against Marywood University. Arcadia University owns the country's longest streak of the 2009 season, going 864:00 minute early this year without allowing a score.
Cabrini (11-5-1, 7-1-1) closes out the CSAC regular season at Centenary College Wednesday, October 29 at 3 p.m.
