RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's soccer team earned its second straight victory in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) competition, cruising to a 5-0 win against unbeaten Baptist Bible College Saturday at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Senior forward Sabina DeGisi reached and eclipsed the 50-goal plateau for her Cavaliers' career in the win.
DeGisi scored three of Cabrini's five first half goals, notching her second hat trick of the season. She also scored three goals in the Cavaliers' 4-2 win against Delaware Valley College September 5.
DeGisi reaches the 50-goal barrier in 67 games played. She scored 34 goals combined in her first two seasons, depositing 16 as a freshman and 18 as a sophomore. DeGisi tallied 10 scores during her junior season leads the Blue & White with eight in 2009.
DeGisi's first goal of the game Saturday handed the Cavaliers a 1-0 advantage in just the fifth minute. Junior forward Annmarie Kolla set-up the score on a two-on-one fast break.
Cabrini added its second goal of the half less than eight minutes later when sophomore midfielder Sammy Thompson blasted a shot past Baptist Bible goalkeeper Melanie Williams from the top of the box. Junior midfielder Dana Nardello's cross into the box was settled by Thompson before she recorded her third goal of the season.
DeGisi helped balloon the Cavaliers' cushion to four goals, 4-0, with back-to-back goals separated by just 55 seconds. Sophomore forward Kara Hinkelmon was credited with an assist on the first after DeGisi settled her serve into the box with her back-left shoulder before a quick one-touch past Williams.
Less than one minute following, DeGisi converted a feed from senior midfielder Jenna Laufenberg right on the Defender's doorstep.
The Cavaliers closed out the contest's scoring with their final goal in the 28th minute. Freshman forward Alex Tralie gathered a redirected attempt from sophomore forward Amanda Robotti and slipped a shot past Williams from just inside the box.
After DeGisi's offensive performance in the first half, she moved to the Blue & White's backline to help bolster the defense and keep BBC off the scoreboard. The Defenders' attack posted 12 shots against 24 from the Cavaliers.
Freshman goalkeeper Maddy Edwards totaled 12 saves for her second consecutive shutout against a CSAC opponent. Edwards needed only two saves in Cabrini's 5-0 win against the College of Notre Dame just three days ago.
Making her third start of the season in goal for the Cavaliers, Edwards has run her consecutive scoreless minutes streak to 208 with the shutout effort against Baptist Bible.
Williams totaled 12 saves for the Defenders. The loss is the first for Baptist Bible against a CSAC foe this season.
Cabrini (4-5-1, 2-1-1) breaks from its non-conference schedule for a date with Penn State – Abington Tuesday, October 6 at home at 6 p.m.
