Volleyball Rolls to CSAC Final, Downs Baptist Bible College, 3-1

The Cabrini volleyball team will meet Philadelphia Biblical University for the CSAC title Saturday at 5 p.m.

The No. 1 seed Cabrini volleyball team will make its second consecutive appearance in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) championship match after a 3-1 win against No. 4 seed Baptist Bible College Thursday night at Nerney Field House in the semifinal round. The victory is the Cavaliers' ninth straight and 23rd overall in 2009, setting a new program record for wins in a single season.

Senior setter Lizzie Williams guided the Cavaliers' attack with a match-best 32 assists. Williams also added 13 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.

Freshman opposite Megan Ryan powered the Cabrini offense, posting a team-best 14 kills on 30 attempts with just one error. Ryan paired her attack performance with 13 digs, notching her first career double-double.

Senior outside hitter Traci Beltz, a CSAC First Team selection with Williams and junior Stephanie Recklau, complimented Ryan at the net totaling eight kills. Recklau, also named the league's player of the year, buried seven kills. She entered the contest ranked third nationally in attack percentage (.429).

Defensively, sophomore libero Courtney Abel posted a match-high 22 digs, registering at least 20 digs in a single contest for the eighth time in 2009.

Cabrini jumped out to a two-set advantage with wins of 25-16 and 25-10 in games one and two. The Cavaliers put Baptist Bible's back against the wall in the second game, recording a .308 team attack percentage. The Blue & White began the night listed ninth nationally in team attack percentage (.264).

The Defenders rallied and forced a fourth game with a 25-18 victory in the third frame. The loss in the game three snap the Cavaliers run of 26 straight set wins. Cabrini last lost a set at Franklin & Marshall College October 3.

However, the Cavaliers punched its ticket to the CSAC title match for the second straight season with a 25-19 triumph in the fourth set.

Cabrini (23-6) will meet No. 3 seed Philadelphia Biblical University in the CSAC title bout Saturday, November 7 at Immaculata University as part of the CSAC Fall Championship Festival. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
