Women's Basketball Stumbles in 49-39 Loss at Elizabethtown College

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. –
The Cabrini women's basketball team's two-game win streak ended Friday night following a 49-39 loss at Elizabethtown College as part of the Elizabethtown College Tournament. Senior combo guard Alyssa Brady totaled a game-high 14 points for the Cavaliers in the loss.

Brady shot 4-for-9 from beyond the 3-point line. She also grabbed a team-best eight rebounds and swiped four steals.

Sophomore forward Kara Hinkelmon made her first career start, matching a career-high with eight points and recorded five boards.

Senior point guard Deana DiAmico tallied seven points and claimed four thefts. Senior combo guard Kate Walck scored five points, collected six rebounds and dished four assists.

Cabrini twice led by as much as three points in the first half behind 3-point field goals from Brady. However, junior forward Kaity Snyder's lay-in at the 10:56 mark of the opening 20 minutes handed the Blue Jays a 16-14 advantage and a lead the hosts would never relinquish.

The Cavaliers trailed by seven points, 26-19, at the intermission. The Blue & White struggled from the field in the first half, shooting just 23.3 percent from the floor overall. Brady scored nine of her 14 points before halftime.

Cabrini pulled to within three points, 29-26, less than four minutes in the second half following another triple from Brady. Elizabethtown answered with a 12-0 run and kept the Cavaliers scoreless for more than five minutes in securing a 41-26 cushion at the 12:22 mark.

The Blue & White cut its deficit to 10 points, 43-33, with 9:06 remaining after a lay-in from Hinkelmon, but would climb no closer.

Snyder and senior guard Courtney Kofeldt each scored 11 points in the victory for the Blue Jays. Sophomore forward Stephanie Ellwood tallied eight points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Defensively, the Cavaliers forced Elizabethtown into 26 turnovers. Through six games this season, the Blue & White has caused its opponents to commit 21.3 miscues per game. The Cavaliers swiped a season-high 18 steals versus the Blue Jays.

Cabrini (2-4) awaits the winner of tonight's second game featuring Shenandoah University and Wilkes University for its opponent in tomorrow's consolation contest. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
