Volleyball Finishes Second at Swarthmore College Tournament

SWARTHMORE, Pa. –
The Cabrini volleyball team placed second at the Swarthmore College Tournament, dropping a 3-1 decision against the host Garnet in the final match. Senior setter Lizzie Williams earned all-tournament team accolades.

In the championship tilt against Swarthmore, Williams notched a team-best 23 assists and nine kills. Senior outside hitter Traci Beltz, junior middle Stephanie Recklau and sophomore outside hitter Alexis Doss each tallied eight kills.

Defensively, sophomore libero Courtney Abel recorded a club-leading 30 digs. Freshman Megan Ryan (19), Doss (15) and Williams (12) also reached double figures in digs.

Swarthmore edged the Cavaliers in game one, 27-25. Cabrini rebounded with a 25-21 victory in the second set.

However, the Garnet seized control of the match with a 25-9 triumph in the third game. Swarthmore closed out the contest with a 25-13 win in the fourth stanza.

The Blue & White advanced to the final against Swarthmore with its second three-game sweep of Wesley College this season earlier Sunday. The Cavaliers downed the Wolverines, 25-19, 25-17 and 29-27.

Cabrini (8-3) begins its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) schedule Thursday on the road against Keystone College at 7 p.m.
