Volleyball Opens CSAC Schedule with 3-0 Win at Keystone College

Cabrini head coach Eric Schaefer tallied his 50th career victory Thursday with a 3-0 win at Keystone College.

The Cabrini volleyball team opened its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) regular season with a convincing 3-0 win at Keystone College Thursday night. Head coach Eric Schaefer totaled his 50th career win with the Cavaliers in just over two-plus seasons.

Senior setter Lizzie Williams guided the Cabrini offense to a .345 attack percentage with 32 assists. Williams also paired a season-best six assists with five digs.

Senior outside hitter Traci Beltz powered the Cavaliers' attack with a club-best 11 kills on 22 attempts. Junior middle Stephanie Recklau posted eight kills, while sophomore outside hitter Alexis Doss and freshman opposite Megan Ryan each tallied seven.

Sophomore libero Courtney Abel has reached double figures in digs in each of Cabrini's 12 matches this season, notching a team-high 14 versus the Giants. Sophomore middle Beth Gillespie added six digs.

Cabrini jumped out to a one-game advantage with a 25-18 win in the first set. The Cavaliers put Keystone in a two-game hole with a resounding 25-9 victory in game two.

The Blue & White closed out the match with a 25-10 triumph in the third set.

Schaefer reaches 50 victories as head coach with the Cavaliers in just 75 matches. In his first season, Cabrini finished 19-8 overall. Last season, Schaefer guided the Cavaliers to 22 overall wins, the most in program history. The Blue & White also advanced to the CSAC and ECAC South Region Tournament title matches in 2008.

Cabrini (9-3, 1-0) remains on the road Wednesday, September 23 at CSAC opponent the College of Notre Dame. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
