IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Cabrini women's soccer team opened its 2009 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) regular season with a 1-1 tie at Immaculata University Tuesday afternoon. Freshman Maddy Edwards scored her third goal of the season for the Cavaliers in the draw.
Cabrini trailed the Mighty Macs for nearly 88 minutes until Edwards' unassisted marker tied the contest at the 87:21 mark. Edwards beat Immaculata junior goalkeeper Jessica Gaburo with the game's equalizer on a breakaway.
The Mighty Macs grabbed a 1-0 advantage in the first half, scoring the contests first goal in the 20th minute. Freshman forward Bridget Cunningham converted a corner kick attempt from sophomore midfielder Tracey Zena at the 19:36 mark.
Each team had its chances in the two overtime periods. IU sophomore forward Jen Steinke's shot attempt in the 98th minute was stopped by Cabrini goalkeeper Gianna Porretta. In the second overtime, Cavalier junior Annmarie Kolla sailed a shot wide.
Immaculata narrowly out-shot Cabrini, 13-9. Both teams earned four corner kick tries.
Porretta posted seven saves for the Blue & White. Gaburo totaled three stops for the Mighty Macs.
Cabrini (2-4-1, 0-0-1) resumes its CSAC schedule Saturday, September 26 at home versus Marywood University (12:30 p.m.).
