Women's Soccer Stumbles in 4-2 Loss Against Marywood University

Senior forward Sabina DeGisi tallied her fourth goal of the season and 48th of her career against Marywood University Saturday.

The Cabrini women's soccer team suffered a 4-2 loss against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Marywood University Saturday at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Senior Sabina DeGisi and freshman Maddy Edwards provided the offense for the Cavaliers in the setback.

DeGisi tallied her fourth goal of the season at the 56:52 mark, tying the game at one goal apiece. Junior forward Annmarie Kolla was credited with the assist after her cross into the box found DeGisi alone with Marywood goalkeeper Meghan Coyle.

The score was the 48th of DeGisi's career with the Cavaliers. As a freshman, she totaled 16 goals in 19 games played. DeGisi experience an even greater offensive outburst one year following, notching 18 goals in 19 contests. In 2008, she netted 10 scores.

The Pacers regained the a one-goal advantage, 2-1, in the 68th minute off Lisa Hanselman's second tally of the afternoon. Shannon Hresko, who also assisted Hanselman's first goal, earned the assist after her serve on a restart was redirected off Hanselman's head past Cabrini netminder Gianna Porretta.

Less than two minutes following, Olivia Habicht deposited an unassisted goal from 25-yards out, supplying the visitors with a two-goal cushion.

The Cavaliers cut their deficit to one goal, 3-2, with Edwards' fourth goal of the season in the 82nd minute. Sophomore Kara Hinkelmon's shot attempt deflected back to Edwards nearly 10-yards outside of the box. The rookie settled the bouncing ball and drilled the twine just inside the opposite post.

However, Marywood iced the contest and reasserted a two-goal lead, 4-2, at the 83:22 mark when Jennifer Slesinski converted a pass from Siobhan Blancflor on the Blue & White's doorstep off a fast-break down the right sideline.

DeGisi led the Cavaliers offense with four shots on goal. Porretta tallied 11 saves in net, surpassing the 10-save plateau for the second time in three games.

Hinkelmon, a CSAC Second Team selection in 2008, made her first appearance of the season after recovering from a knee injury suffered during the offseason. As a freshman last year, she totaled 19 points on eight goals and three helpers.

Cabrini (2-5-1, 0-1-1) travels to CSAC opponent the College of Notre Dame Wednesday, September 30 for a 4 p.m. start.
