ASTON, Pa. – The Cabrini volleyball team remains unbeaten in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play following two victories against league opponents Tuesday night at Neumann University, including a 3-2 victory versus the two-time defending champion Knights. The Cavaliers swept Rosemont College, 3-0, in their first match.
Cabrini last knocked off Neumann during the 2005 season, posting a 3-2 victory just over four years ago to the day on September 26.
The Blue & White offense boasted a .284 attack percentage versus the Knights, notching better than a .250 clip for the seventh time this season. Senior setter Lizzie Williams guided the Cavaliers' attack with 35 assists.
Sophomore outside hitter Alexis Doss recorded a team-best 14 kills on 35 attempts. Junior middle Stephanie Recklau, the CSAC's leader in hitting percentage entering Tuesday night, tallied 11 kills on 26 tries.
Defensively, it was sophomore libero Courtney Abel leading the Blue & White yet again with 23 digs. Freshman opposite Megan Ryan complimented Abel on the backline with 12 digs.
Recklau notched six total blocks, including four solo stuffs. Sophomore middle Beth Gillespie totaled five total blocks with three solo blocks.
The Cavaliers quickly put Neumann in a two-game hole with 26-24 and 25-21 victories in the first two sets, respectively. Cabrini buried a combined 23 kills in games one and two.
The Knights responded and forced a decisive game five with a 25-21 triumph in game three and a 25-23 victory in the fourth set. Cabrini fought off the momentum swing and answered with a 15-11 win in the fifth stanza.
Cecily Scavicchio collected 56 assists and 10 digs for the Knights. Ashley Mathis led Neumann's attack with 28 kills.
The Cavaliers set the tone for the night's success with a convincing sweep (25-14, 25-4, 25-10) against the Ravens. Williams led the Cabrini offense to a blistering .432 team attack percentage with 24 assists.
Doss powered the Blue & White attack with eight kills. Recklau and sophomore middle Danielle Kulich each posted seven kills in the win.
The Cavaliers are undefeated against CSAC opponents through five matches for the first time under third-year head coach Eric Schaefer.
Cabrini (13-3, 5-0) plays its first of four consecutive non-conference foes Thursday, October 1 at Widener University at 7 p.m.
