RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) regular season Monday night, 70-65, against rival Gwynedd-Mercy College in Nerney Field House. Senior combo guard Alyssa Brady tallied a season-best 27 points in the loss.
Brady shot 6-for-14 from the field overall and knocked down 15-of-16 free throw attempts. She is shooting 89.3 percent from the charity stripe over the last two games. Brady also notched eight boards versus the Griffins.
Senior combo guard Kate Walck totaled 16 points, shooting 5-for-13 overall and 2-for-5 from long range. Walck grabbed four boards, swiped four steals and dished three assists. Senior point guard Deana DiAmico added 13 points, five rebounds and three helpers.
The Cavaliers trailed by four points, 30-26, at halftime. Gwynedd-Mercy ballooned its lead to 14 points, 44-30, with 13:13 left in the second half.
The Blue & White rallied to pull within two points, 62-60, at the 4:33 mark. Senior guard Kate Wisniewski answered with one of the Griffins six 3-point field goals in the second half, reaffirming a five-point edge, 65-60, with slighty more than four minutes on the clock.
Sophomore forward Kristy McGrath led Gwynedd-Mercy with 23 points on 7-for-13 shooting overall. Wisniewski chipped in 14 points, knocking down 3-of-6 triples. The Griffins shot 10-for-18 from beyond the arc for the game.
The contest featured rematch of the last three CSAC title games. The Cavaliers suffered a 68-61 loss in 2007 before winning the last two championship tilts and advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
Cabrini (5-6, 3-1) continues its CSAC regular season slate Thursday, Jan. 14 at home versus Keystone College. The Cavaliers and Giants tip at 6 p.m.
(NOTE: the Cabrini women's basketball team is credited with three wins in CSAC play to-date due a forfeit victory earned versus the College of Notre Dame. CND canceled its 2009-10 season for the women's basketball team in November. The Gators will return to competition for the 2010-11 campaign.)
