ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team is riding a three-game win streak following a convincing 77-53 win at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Cedar Crest College Thursday night. For the second straight game, the Cavaliers' offense boasted five scorers in double figures in the win.
Senior combo guard Alyssa Brady powered the Cabrini offense with 20 points, shooting 8-for-14 overall and 3-for-5 from long range. Brady grabbed eight rebounds and dished three assists. She has led the Cavaliers in scoring in 12 games this season, including the last five contests.
Sophomore Laura Caron scored a career-high 13 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the floor. Caron claimed four boards, dished three helpers and swiped three steals.
Senior point guard Deana DiAmico tallied 12 points, collected four rebounds, distributed three assists and recorded two steals. DiAmico is now 41 points shy of reaching the 1,000-point plateau for her career.
Sophomore forward Kara Hinkelmon added 10 points, shooting 4-for-5 overall, and registered four rebounds. Senior forward Kasey Agostinacchio totaled a season-high 15 points in just 17 minutes played off the bench. Agostinacchio shot a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, including a 3-for-3 clip from 3-point range.
The Cavaliers held a seven-point advantage at halftime, 36-29, after shooting 43.3 percent from the floor as a team. Cabrini cashed in 21 points in the first half off Cedar Crest turnovers.
The Falcons led by as much as five points, 9-4, in the opening 20 minutes until DiAmico's 3-point field goal with 7:42 before the intermission handed the visitors a lead, 21-20, they would never relinquish. Brady scored 15 of her 20 points in the first frame.
The Blue & White raced to a 15-point cushion, 48-33, before the 15:00 mark of the second half. Another triple from DiAmico supplied the Cavaliers with a 69-49 lead with 5:39 remaining.
Cabrini shot a season-best 58.3 percent from the floor in the second half. Caron and DiAmico each scored nine points in the closing period.
Defensively, the Cavaliers' defense held Cedar Crest to 35.1 percent shooting for the game. The Falcons shot just 1-for-8 from the 3-point line in the second half. In eight CSAC games this season, Cabrini is limiting its opponents to 33.0 percent shooting and 51.4 points.
Senior guard Kelly Oakes and sophomore forward Lizzy Sunderhaus each tallied 14 points in the loss for the Falcons. Oakes notched a double-double with 14 rebounds.
Cabrini (10-7, 7-2) travels to CSAC North Division leader Centenary College Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m.
