BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Cabrini volleyball team had its season-best eight-match win streak come to an end on Thursday night with a 3-0 loss at Landmark Conference opponent Moravian College. Junior libero Courtney Abel totaled a match-high 19 digs for the Cavaliers in the loss.
Abel is now just 18 digs shy of her 1,000th at Cabrini. She has recorded 293 digs this season and notched a career-best 458 in 2009.
Freshman setter Alaina Clark complemented Abel on the Cavaliers' backline, tallying 12 digs. She posted her 10th double-double of the season, also contributing 20 assists.
Freshman middle hitter Michele Fitz guided the Blue & White attack with a club-best eight kills on 16 attempts. Junior outside hitter Alexis Doss added five kills. The Cabrini offense recorded a season-low .082 team attack percentage in the loss.
Moravian jumped out to a 1-0 advantage with a convincing 25-11 victory in the first set. The Cavaliers fell two-sets down after a 25-19 loss in the second frame. The Greyhounds clinched the victory with a 25-17 win in the third game.
Christine Poole led the Moravian offense with 36 assists. Samantha Savite totaled 12 kills on 21 attempts.
The loss is the Cavaliers' first since a 3-1 setback at home against Widener University on Sept. 23. The Blue & White's eight-match win streak featured six 3-0 sweeps.
Cabrini (17-5, 8-0) returns to the hardwood at Nerney Field House on Saturday, Oct. 16 against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Centenary College. Match time against the Cyclones is set for 1:30 p.m.
