Abel Surpasses 1,000 Career Digs in 3-1 Win Against Centenary College

Junior libero Courtney Abel surpassed the 1,000 career digs plateau in a 3-1 win against Centenary College on Saturday.

RADNOR, Pa. –
The Cabrini volleyball team remains unbeaten in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play and captured its 22nd straight win against a league opponent with a 3-1 victory versus Centenary College on Saturday afternoon at Nerney Field House. Junior libero Courtney Abel eclipsed the 1,000 career digs plateau with 21 for the Cavaliers in the victory.

Abel reached the career milestone in the fourth set. She is averaging 3.45 digs per set during her nearly three full seasons with the Blue & White.

Senior middle hitter Stephanie Recklau ignited the Cabrini attack, tallying 17 kills on 34 attempts. Freshman middle hitter Michelle Fitz posted 12 kills on only 17 tries.

Recklau and Fitz also set the match's tone at the net on the defensive side, each totaling four total blocks. Sophomore opposite Megan Ryan notched six kills and four block assists.

Freshman outside hitter Sophia Sokolovich recorded her sixth double-double of the season, pairing 11 kills with 10 digs. Freshman setter Alaina Clark contributed a season-high 50 assists.

The Cavaliers jumped out to a two-set lead with a 25-21 win in game one and a 25-23 victory in the second set. The Cyclones trimmed its deficit in half with a 26-24 triumph in the third frame.

However, behind four kills from Sokolovich and 14 assists from Clark, Cabrini clinched the win with a 25-22 victory in the fourth game.

Junior middle hitter Devon Paffendorf led the Centenary offense with 24 kills. Sophomore setter Jelena Markovic dished 32 assists for the Cyclones in the loss.

Cabrini (18-5, 9-0) is back in action against Valley Forge Christian College (1 p.m.) and Philadelphia Biblical University (3 p.m.) at Philadelphia Biblical University on Saturday, Oct. 23.
