Volleyball Opens Busy Weekend with 3-0 Win at Wilkes University

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. –
The Cabrini volleyball team opened a four-match weekend with a resounding 3-0 win on the road against Freedom Conference opponent Wilkes University on Friday night. Freshman setter Alaina Clark and freshman outside hitter Sophia Sokolovich each recorded double-doubles in the victory for the Cavaliers.

Clark guided the Cabrini offense to a .267 team attack percentage with 26 assists and added 11 digs. Sokolovich paired a team-high 10 kills with 12 digs.

Junior outside hitter Alexis Doss notched eight kills. Senior middle hitter Stephanie Recklau buried five kills on just eight attempts.

Junior libero Courtney Abel totaled a club-best 18 digs. Freshman defensive specialist Kristy Riley tallied nine digs.

Freshman middle blocker Michele Fitz continues her strong play at the net, recorded six blocks, including three solo stops. Fitz notched nine blocks in Cabrini's 3-1 win against the College of Notre Dame on Oct. 6.

The Cavaliers grabbed a 1-0 match lead following a 25-22 win in game one. The Blue & White backed the Colonels into a corner with a commanding 26-15 victory in the second stanza. Cabrini clinched its fifth straight victory with a 25-14 triumph in the third frame.

Senior outside hitter Marissa Harrison led the Wilkes attack with nine kills. Junior setter Kate McGurk posted 12 assists.

The victory is the Cavaliers' second this season against the Colonels. The Blue & White topped Wilkes, 3-1, on Sept. 4 in its final match at the Moravian College Tournament.

Cabrini (14-4, 5-0) plays three matches tomorrow at Marywood University, beginning with a 10 a.m. start versus the Pacers. The Cavaliers also meet Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponents Keystone College (12 p.m.) and Rosemont College (2 p.m.).
