The Cabrini women's basketball suffered a 63-39 setback on the road Wednesday night at Landmark Conference opponent the University of Scranton. Senior guard Julie Bonomo netted a team-best 13 points for the Cavaliers in the loss.
Bonomo shot 4-for-6 from the field overall, including a 3-for-4 shooting performance from 3-point range. She also grabbed three rebounds and handed out three assists.
Freshman guard Brittany Sandone contributed six points on 2-for-4 shooting overall. Freshman forward Colleen Stewart led the Cavaliers' charge on the glass, collecting five rebounds.
The Cavaliers trailed 37-16 at the intermission. Bonomo led the Blue & White in the first half, scoring nine points, including a stretch of eight unanswered.
The Royals owned a 20-5 advantage at the 11:47 mark before Bonomo dropped two 3-point field goals and converted a baseline jumper. She also knocked down a free throw in the opening 20 minutes.
Senior guard Jennifer King scored a team-high 12 points in the first half, shooting 3-for-6 from beyond the 3-point arc. Senior forward Courtney Roselle kicked in 10 points.
The Lady Royals opened up their lead to 44-19 just over five minutes into the second half. Scranton led 50-24 at the 11:55 mark.
King scored a game-high 14 points as the Lady Royals claimed their fourth straight win. Senior guard Colleen McLane tallied 13 points.
Tonight's contest marked a return to the John Long Center for second-year Cabrini head coach Kate Pearson. Pearson earned four varsity letters with the Lady Royals from 2000-04, thrice leading Scranton to the NCAA Tournament and earning two All-America honors.
Pearson is 11th on the Lady Royals' all-time scoring list, tallying 1,292 career points. She guided Scranton to two Freedom League championships in 2002 and 2004.
Cabrini (2-5) is back in action in beautiful San Juan, P.R. on Saturday, Dec. 18 against the University of Mary Washington. Game time is set for 8 p.m. at the University of Sacred Heart.
