IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team dropped a 58-47 decision at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Immaculata University Thursday night. Senior combo guard Alyssa Brady notched her fifth double-double of the season for the Cavaliers in the loss.
Brady paced the Cabrini offense with 20 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end. She has led the Cavaliers in scoring in 15 games this season. The 14-rebound effort is just her second-highest single-game total this season after recording 15 boards versus then-No. 5 the University of Scranton on Nov. 24.
Senior point guard Deana DiAmico tallied 14 points, draining three 3-point field goal baskets in eight attempts. DiAmico has scored in double figures in nine of the last 10 games, and 12-of-14 overall.
Sophomre forward Kara Hinkelmon paired five points with five rebounds. Senior combo guard Kate Walck supported the Cavaliers' charge on the glass, claiming a team-high six boards.
Despite shooting just 24.3 percent from the floor in the first half, Cabrini stayed tied with Immaculata at the intermission, 22-22. The Mighty Macs shot 40.9 percent in the opening 20 minutes.
However, Immaculata seized control of the game from the early minutes of the second half, using a 13-0 run to grab a 35-22 cushion at the 14:29 mark.
The Blue & White countered with a 14-6 spurt and pulled within five points, 41-36, with 9:22 on the clock. Brady and DiAmico capped the run with back-to-back lay-ins. Cabrini trailed 45-39 after Walck drained a triple with 6:20 remaining.
The Mighty Macs answered and pushed its lead back to 10 points, 49-39, at the 4:28 mark. Immaculata led by a game-high 13 points, 58-45, with 1:07 remaining.
Junior forward Chelsea McTigue posted a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman point guard Chrissy Esbensen also scored in double figures with 10 points.
Immaculata shot 46.9 percent from the floor overall for the game against a 24.6 percent overall clip for the Cavaliers. The Mighty Macs out-scored Cabrini in the paint, 38-22.
The Blue & White tallied a season-high 23 offensive rebounds. The Cavaliers turned their efforts on the glass into 18 second-chance points.
Cabrini (13-9, 9-3) will look to end its brief two-game slide Saturday, Feb. 13 at home versus CSAC opponent Marywood University. The Cavalier men and women's teams will also host their annual alumni games in conjunction with the doubleheader against the Pacers.
