GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. –
The Cabrini women's basketball team rallied from an eight-point deficit with just over three minutes remaining in regulation to force overtime, but could not complete the comeback in an 85-80 loss at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) rival Gwynedd-Mercy College Monday night.

The Cavaliers trailed the Griffins 64-56 with 3:06 remaining in the second half following a free throw from Griffins sophomore guard Bryn Cotetta. Cabrini answered with five unanswered points to pull within three points, 64-61, at the 1:15 mark.

Following a missed 3-point attempt from senior point guard Deana DiAmico, Gwynedd-Mercy pushed its lead back to seven points, 68-61, with 49 ticks remaining. Just as it appeared the Cavaliers had taken its last gasp, the visitors had one more left in the tank.

The Blue & White drained four 3-point field goals in the final 32 seconds, tying the contest at 73-73 at the end of regulation. DiAmico converted the first two before senior combo guard Alyssa Brady knocked down the last two, including the game-tying triple off the glass from the top of the key glass with five seconds on the clock.

In the overtime session, Brady drilled her first 3-point attempt, providing the Cavaliers with a three-point edge, 76-73. However, two possessions following, Brady committed her fifth and final foul with Cabrini leading 78-76 and 3:41 on the clock.

The Blue & White led 80-77 following a lay-in from senior combo guard Kate Walck at the 2:11 mark. Yet, Gwynedd-Mercy closed out the game on an 8-0 run. Cotetta sunk two free throws with less than two seconds remaining to clinch the Griffins' win.

Brady led all scorers with 25 points, shooting 8-for-15 overall, and grabbed 12 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. In two games this season against Gwynedd-Mercy, Brady is averaging 26.0 points and shooting 48.3 percent from the floor.

DiAmico coupled 16 points with six rebounds and five assists. DiAmico and Brady each dropped four 3-point field goals in the loss.

Walck scored 13 points and dished five assists. Sophomore forward Kara Hinkelmon paired 10 points with five rebounds.

Gwynedd-Mercy senior forward Jackie Dooley and junior forward Christy McGrath each tallied 18 points. Cotetta chipped in 15 points.

The Cavaliers and Griffins have met in each of the last three CSAC championship games. The Blue & White won consecutive titles in 2008 and 2009 following GMC's title campaign in 2007.

Cabrini (14-10, 10-4) remains in sole possession of third place in the CSAC South Division standings. The Cavaliers wrap up the regular season Saturday, Feb. 20 at first-place Neumann University. Game time versus the Knights is set for 1 p.m.
