GLENSIDE, Pa. –
The Cabrini women's soccer team pulled within one score late, but could not overcome a two-goal deficit in a 2-1 loss at Commonwealth Conference opponent Arcadia University on Wednesday afternoon. Junior midfielder Sammy Thompson scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season for the Cavaliers in the loss.

The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 4th minute when junior midfielder Brittany Drosdak converted a feed from senior midfielder Janelle Jablonski and junior midfielder Ashley Knueppel. Drosdak received a pass inside the box before beating Cabrini sophomore goalkeeper Maddy Edwards to the right corner.

Arcadia pushed its advantage to two goals, 2-0, less than seven minutes before the intermission after Rachel Dolly converted a penalty kick at the 38:41 mark. The Knights owned a 2-0 cushion at the break.

Cabrini cut the Arcadia lead in half in the 71st minute with the Thompson tally. Thompson found the back of the net on an unassisted marker, tucking the ball inside the upper left-hand corner.

However, the Blue & White was held scoreless over the final 19 minutes. Arcadia sophomore goalkeeper Jackie Law posted five saves in the victory.

Edwards posted 10 stops for the Cavaliers in the loss.

Today's match marked the sixth straight between the two schools that was decided by just one goal.

Cabrini (6-2-0) resumes its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) regular season schedule against Marywood University at home on Saturday, Sept. 25. The Cavaliers and Pacers met for the conference title in 2009. Match time with Marywood is set for 1:30 p.m.
