GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Cabrini volleyball team opened its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) regular season campaign with a convincing 3-0 win at Gwynedd-Mercy College on Wednesday night. The victory is the Cavaliers' 14th straight against a conference opponent dating back to last season.
Freshman setter Alaina Clark notched her fifth double-double of the season in the win, pairing 22 assists with 12 digs against the Griffins. Cabrini's .354 attack percentage as a team is its second-best performance in 2010.
Offensively, junior outside hitter Alexis Doss and sophomore outside hitter Megan Ryan each totaled a team-best six kills. Senior middle hitter Stephanie Recklau, the reigning CSAC Player of the Year, recorded five kills.
Junior libero Courtney Abel complimented Clark on the defensive side, tallying nine digs. Recklau posted four total blocks.
The Blue & White jumped out to a 25-13 victory in the first set before cruising to the sweep with 25-12 and 25-11 wins in sets two and three, respectively.
Junior setter Maria Stilwell guided the Gwynedd-Mercy offense with 17 assists. Junior outside hitter Aileen Reilly and freshman middle hitter Rachel Lambert each recorded five kills.
Cabrini (9-3, 1-0) resumes its non-conference slate at home on Thursday, Sept. 23 versus Commonwealth Conference foe Widener University. Match time with the Pride is set for 7 p.m.
