SCRANTON, Pa. – The Cabrini College women's soccer team advanced to its second Colonial States Athletic Conference finals game in the last three years with tonight's 3-2 semifinal win at Marywood University. The Cavaliers will travel to Aston, Pa. on Saturday to face Neumann University in the CSAC final game.
The Cavaliers opened the scoring in the game's 16th minute when senior
Sammy Thompson tallied her seventh goal of the season, assisted by junior
Dana Drake.
The Pacers tied the score in the 21st minute sending the teams to the halftime break with the score tied at one goal apiece.
Cabrini regained the lead just after the break when freshman
Melissa Scanzano's header off a rebound found the back of the net. Thompson recorded the assist on the rookie's second tally of the season.
As was the case in the first half, Marywood evened the score just minutes later.
The Blue and White again responded, taking the lead for good in the 60th minute when sophomore
Noelle DiCioccio found senior
Kara Hinkelmon for her team-leading eighth goal of the year.
The Pacers outshot the Cavaliers 14-5, but Cabrini's junior goalie
Maddy Edwards was up to the task, recording five saves for the win.
The Cavaliers (12-5-2) will face Neumann University (12-5-1) in Saturday's final. Neumann advanced to the final game after defeating Centenary College 4-2 in penalty kicks after 110 scoreless minutes of play.
These two teams faced off on October 5 at Cabrini's Edith Robb Dixon Field. The Blue and White were victorious as a Hinkelmon corner kick found Thompson for the game's only goal.
