RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini Cavaliers clinched their fourth consecutive appearance in the Colonial States Athletic Conference final with tonight's 3-0 semifinal win over the visiting Baptist Bible College Defenders. The Cavaliers will host Neumann University in the CSAC tournament final match on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at Nerney Field House.
The Blue and White wasted little time displaying their focus in tonight's match. With the score tied at three, Cabrini scored 14 of the next 16 points to take an insurmountable 17-5 lead. The Cavaliers also scored the final six points of the set, including three consecutive service aces by sophomore
Alaina Clark, en route to the 25-9 first set win.
The Cavaliers struggled early in the second set, trailing 9-4 before a Cabrini timeout. After the break, the Blue and White scored the next seven to take an 11-10 lead. They would not trail the rest of the match. Consecutive kills by senior
Alexis Doss gave Cabrini a 13-11 lead and they didn't look back. Points on five serves by sophomore
Sophia Sokolovich gave Cabrini a 22-15 lead before taking the set 25-18.
The first half of final set was played very evenly. But with Cabrini leading 11-9, the Cavaliers recorded five of the next seven points, for a 16-11 advantage. The Blue and White scored five of the match's final six points to take set three 25-15.
Four Cavaliers recorded at least nine kills on the match, led by Doss, whose 12 kills leaves her nine short of the 1,000 Career Kill plateau. Juniors
Danielle Carrozza and Megan Ryan and sophomore Michelle Fitz recorded nine kills each.
Sophomore
Sophia Sokolovich tallied 16 digs, while Carrozza added 12. Clark notched 36 assists and five service aces in the win.
Second seeded Neumann defeated third seed Marywood University 3-2 in tonight's other semifinal match.
The Cavaliers won the 2009 and 2010 CSAC championships after falling to Neumann in the 2008 title game.
