RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini College women's basketball team exploded to an 89-51 win over the visiting Notre Dame (Md.) University Gators tonight at Nerney Field House.
The 89 points is the largest scoring output by the Cavaliers since Cabrini beat Baptist Bible College 87-44 on February 1, 2009.
The Cavaliers wasted little time in flexing their offensive muscle tonight, scoring the first nine points of the game. The Blue and White didn't stop there.
The Blue and White continued to push the ball up the floor and apply defensive pressure. By halftime, Cabrini led 48-23, allowing Notre Dame (Md.) just 18 field goal attempts to Cabrini's 41.
Cabrini didn't slow down after the halftime break, pushing their lead to 31 points less than eight minutes into the second stanza.
Even with a sizable lead, the Cavaliers continued to work hard on the defensive end, holding the Gators to 27.3% shooting, including just 3-16 from three-point range.
Offensively, the Blue and White showed tremendous balance. Twelve players saw significant action and 11 of them scored and grabbed at least two rebounds.
Sophomore
Brittany Sandone led five Cavaliers in double figure scoring with 11 points.
Amanda Cundari,
MaryKate McCann,
Melissa Kudzmas, and
Amber Keys tallied 10 points each.
Keys grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Cabrini maintained an astounding 62-16 edge in points in the paint and turned 29 Gator turnovers into 33 points.
Tonight's win marks the first time in 30 games the Cavaliers have surpassed the .500 mark. Cabrini finished the 2009-10 campaign 15-10 and failed to reach the mark during the 2010-11season.
Now 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, the Cavalier will welcome the Keystone College Giants to Nerney Field House on Saturday as part of a women's and men's CSAC doubleheader.
The ball will go up for the ladies at 1:00 p.m. with the men to follow at approximately 3:00 p.m.
