ASTON, Pa. – Senior
Kara Hinkelmon's goal less than three minutes into the 2011 Colonial States Athletic Conference championship game was all the Cavaliers would need. Cabrini defeated the second seeded Neumann University Knights 1-0 on Saturday in Aston, Pa. Today's win marks the fifth CSAC women's soccer title for Cabrini and the CAvaliers' second title in three years.
Senior
Sammy Thompson found Hinkelmon for her team-leading ninth goal of the year. It was Hinkelmon that assisted Thompson's goal in Cabrini's 1-0 win over Neumann back on October 5.
The majority of the match was played between the teams respective 18-yard boxes. Both teams only recorded four shots on goal each. Hinkelmon was the only player of the pitch to put two shots on goal. Neumann's Nica Meccariello took a game-high five shots, but just one was on target.
Cabrini's junior goalie
Maddy Edwards recorded four saves in notching her 13th win of the year. Neumann goaltender Briana King tallied three saves.
Hinkelmon was named 2011 CSAC Women's Soccer Championship Most Valuable Player.
The Cavaliers (13-5-2) must now wait until Sunday or Monday to learn their destination and opponent for the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
