Cavaliers Volleyball Drops Two at Garnet Classic

SWARTHMORE, Pa. –
The Cabrini College volleyball team dropped two matches on the opening day of the Swarthmore College Garnet Classic on Friday night.  The Cavaliers dropped a tough five set match to Marymount University then lost 3-1 to the host Swarthmore Garnet.

Cabrini's opening match against Marymount University featured two evenly matched teams trading set victories.   The Saints took the first set 25-21 before the Cavaliers returned the favor in the second set by the same score. 

The two teams again traded victories in the next two sets, Marymount taking the third 25-15 and Cabrini taking the fourth 25-19.  In the fifth deciding set, the Saints managed the match's final two points to close the match with 16-14 set five score.

In the night cap, the Cavaliers faced the Swarthmore Garnet, who defeated Cabrini 3-0 six days earlier.  Again, the Cavaliers came up short, falling to the Garnet 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, and 25-14.

Junior Danielle Carrozza and senior Alexis Doss recorded double-doubles in kills and digs against Swarthmore, with 16 and 29, and 10 and 11, respectively.  Senior Courtney Abel recorder 30 assists for the Cavaliers.  Sophomores Sophia Sokolovich and Kristy Riley also combined for 37 digs.

The Cavaliers (4-6) will face Rutgers – Camden at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in Day Two of the classic.
